Advent Time (From the Latin: adventus, "coming", "arrival"), it is a time of preparation for the Birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem and it represents the four thousand years and more that the people of the Old Testament awaited and longed for the coming of the Messiah. Advent Time consists of four Sundays.
How is the Feast of Christ the King, Advent Time and Nativity Time calculated? December 25th was established as a fixed date for Christmas; Advent Time begins four (4) Sundays before Christmas. If Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, the Solemnity of the Maternity of Mary Most Holy will be celebrated the next Sunday, which would fall on January 1st and the Feast of The Holy Family in this case, would be celebrated on December 30th. If Christmas does not fall on Sunday, the Feast of the Holy Family will be celebrated the next Sunday. Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th, however in some countries it is celebrated on the following Sunday from January 2nd to January 8th. The Baptism of the Lord is celebrated the next Sunday after January 6th, although this date could vary when it coincides with Epiphany. In this case, it will be celebrated the next day after the Feast of Epiphany. The Feast of Christ the King is celebrated on the Sunday previous to the first Sunday of Advent and with it the Ordinary Time ends, being the Last Sunday of the Ordinary Time. |
